The Ragdoll cat breed originated in Riverside, CA beginning in 1963 when Anne Baker took notice of the kitten produced by a neighbors cat named Josephine. The kittens were docile, loving toward people and "flopped" when picked up and held.
She continued to breed the line for cats with these wonderful characteristics, picking the traits like the tendency to relax when picked up, pointed coloration, big size, and the sweet Ragdoll cat personality.
Today, Ragdolls are marketed by Ragdoll cat breeders as being family friendly, calm cats, with striking blue eyes. As a beautiful and sweet breed, these kitties make great pets and are a delight to so many cat lovers.
